Water Conservation

The definition of water conservation is the reduction of the use of fresh water, through technological and/or social methods so that overall usage meets predetermined goals.

Water conservation efforts aim for sustainability, so that supplies are available for the immediate future. Sustainable water usage means the taking of of fresh water from an ecosystem doesn't exceed its natural replacement rate of the water.

By minimizing human water usage natural habitats are conserved for local wildlife. Also, the need to build new dams and other water diversion infrastructure is greatly reduced and preferably eliminated.

The Queensland Government's Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme offers householders cash rebates for a number of water-saving devices. In the long term, reducing water usage and guarding every drop will delay the introduction of further water restrictions for as long as possible, and give the government more time to put measures in place to manage the ongoing water needs of our growing community. But, we can all contribute to water conservation measures in our daily usage.
