Saving Water Indoors

Here is a list of tips for saving water in the house

1. Never let water go down the drain when there may be another use for it such as watering a plant, or cleaning the car.

2. Check for toilet tank leaks and worn out, corroded or bent parts. Most replacement parts are inexpensive, readily available and easily installed.

3. Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Never dispose of tissues and other such waste in toilet.

4. Repair dripping taps with new washers.

5. Take shorter showers and replace your showerhead with an ultra-low-flow one.

6. Check that your home’s internal pipes are leak-free,

7. Use the minimum amount of water needed for a bath by closing the drain first and filling the tub only one-third full.

8. Don't let water run while shaving, brushing your teeth, or washing your face.

9. Retrofit all wasteful household faucets by installing aerators with flow restrictors.

10. When washing dishes by hand, fill one sink or basin with soapy water. Quickly rinse under a slow-moving stream from the tap.

11. Only turn on dishwashers and clothes washing machines when they are fully loaded or else set the water level for the appropriate size of load.

12. Since kitchen sink disposal units require lots of water start a compost pile to dispose of food waste.

13. Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than letting the tap run every time you want a cool glass of water.

14. Insulate hot water pipes to get instant hot water.

15. When adjusting water temperatures via the taps, instead of turning water flow up, try turning it down
